Description

'With a pair of nail clippers, you'll flatten the whole of the Netherlands' said internet professor ir Jaap W.J. baron van Till in 2002. His warning was widely picked up by the national media at the time. More than 10 years later, the vulnerability of our digital systems is more visible than ever. Recent DDoS attacks mainly affect our financial institutions, but KLM and DigiD have also suffered recent attacks. Digital espionage, network failures and inaccessible services are no exception. Think of the debacle of the digital voting machines, the connection problems at the border with the Fyra and the inaccessibility of Vodafone customers last year. The consequences are incalculable when defence is no longer able to connect to the frontline. If we are no longer able to secure our water resources, the Netherlands will flood with all the consequences.

Three leading speakers will take you through the vulnerability of our digital world, now and in the future. Ir. Jaap van Till advocates setting up a permanent Internet Chamber Commission. Ir. Ronald Prins talks about the digitalisation of our society and ir. Eric Luiijf questions design from the perspective of cyber security. If we are so vulnerable, major challenges lie ahead
