Description

The navy, business case or beauty case?

This lustrum symposium of the KIM alumni association (KIMaV) and the association Pungno Pro Patria in Mare will take place on 4 September 2014 in Rotterdam, immediately prior to the official opening of the World Port Days.

A unique event at unique location. The upcoming symposium will be held on the 13th floor of the STC building at Lloydstraat 300 in Rotterdam. The uniquely located "Lloydzaal" is suspended above the river Maas, offering a magnificent view of the port of Rotterdam and the Joint Support Ship, the future Zr.Ms. Karel Doorman. Following the symposium, there will be a reception on board this brand-new ship.

In five years, the Johan de Witt Lecture has grown into a valued platform for an open and pragmatic exchange of views on maritime-military, political and business issues. Around 200 participants attend this symposium annually, mainly from administrative layers of the business community, government institutions and civil society organisations.

This year's theme is: The Navy, business case or beauty case? During the symposium we will explore the social relevance of the KM along three themes:

1) The Royal Navy and politics,
2) The Royal Navy and the economy,
3) The Royal Navy and people.
