Description

KIVI DV is organising a theme evening/workshop on long-term developments in Defence.

The Ministry of Defence will give an introductory presentation on its vision for the further development of Defence in these turbulent times and on the spearheads for knowledge and innovation. These spearheads are set out in the Strategic Knowledge and Innovation Agenda (SKIA 2016-2020) published this month. Download the new SKIA at the bottom of this page.

The presentations will be followed by workshops and a dialogue with Defence. In these, KIVI members, experts and Defence can discuss the role and influence of different technology areas within this multi-year perspective and exchange insights.

The workshop themes are:

1. Man-machine teaming and Unmanned systems:
Vision and concept development of man-machine teaming, including the integration of manned and unmanned platforms is the central theme here. This could include requirements for innovation, platforms and systems, as well as actual deployment and personnel qualities.

2. Cyber Warfare/information as a weapon:
Here the focus is on the further development of cyber capabilities and capabilities for information operations (using big data analysis techniques and tools) with associated standard-setting and doctrine.

3. Artificial Intelligence/big data:
As the underlying technology, this theme influences the two previously mentioned themes. Issues of new capabilities, autonomy and human control are relevant here.

4. Energy:
This theme deals with reducing energy dependence in operations, thereby increasing the effectiveness, efficiency and resilience of the armed forces. The theme is related to the Operational Energy Strategy.

5. Systems and systems integration:
This theme focuses mainly on keeping Defence equipment up to date in a world with ever-shorter product-life cycles. How can innovations at component and sub-system level be enabled in such a way that this leads to ever better performance at system and system-of-systems level?

Programme timings can be found on the right-hand side of this page.
