In a letter the minister of economic affairs and climate informs the House of Representatives that the energy intensive industry is amply on schedule with their reduction of energy consumption. A year ago an agreement was made between the chemical industry and the ministry of economic affairs about an individual commitment of companies to reach an energy saving of 9 PJ in 2020. This reduction was necessary to fulfill the energy agreement of 2013 and to reduceCO2 emission.
The 9 PJ is in addition to the MEE covenant of agreements between companies and the government which makes the Dutch industry run ahead in saving energy. This way the chemical industry has more than proporionally contributed to the necessary energy savings in 2020. Next steps are stated in the roadmap 2050.
