Five large interdisciplinary consortia strengthen knowledge and innovation in the Netherlands

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) is investing a total of 39 million euros in five large, interdisciplinary research consortia from the Crossover programme. All to make progress within major societal and economic challenges in the fields of lifestyle of the elderly, neurotechnology, agricultural production systems, energy storage and sustainability.

In total, NWO received 18 applications, of which 10 were eventually assessed with a developed proposal. Within the consortia, scientists from widely differing disciplines join forces with public and private partners. Besides research, they focus strongly on promoting cooperation between diverse disciplines and linking with application-oriented research. The results find their way to living labs, living labs, centres of expertise or smart data factories, for example.

The honoured projects are:

- MOCIA: Maintaining Optimal Cognitive function in Ageing - a personalised lifestyle prevention approach
- INTENSE: Innovative NeuroTechNology for Society
- RELEASE: Reversible Large-scale Energy Storage
- SYNERGIA: System change for New Ecology-based and Resource efficient Growth with high tech in Agriculture
- NEON: New Energy and Mobility Outlook for the Netherlands
