Energy supply CO2 neutral

Many countries around us are busy working on plans to achieve CO2 neutral energy supply before 2050. Some countries already have very clear plans and even want to achieve this goal as early as 2040, and that based on home-grown energy.

Energy plan EnergyNL2050

In the Netherlands, we are nowhere near that far and it is still often said that "with wind and sun alone we will not make it". Our team has been drawing up a plan for five years now, starting by investigating how much energy we can generate ourselves using only wind and sun. Step by step, we have arrived at our current energy plan (EnegyNL2050) in which we can generate the vast majority of the energy we need ourselves, and do so without making excessive demands on the landscape and nature. We have calculated this plan with extensive simulations.

Energy system

This does require that we will have to use the generated energy efficiently, which we have also investigated and incorporated into our plan. Furthermore, the system must be properly tuned so that we lose as little of the generated energy as possible.

Feasible and Affordable

We now have a plan up to 2050 that we call "Feasible" and "Affordable". We will present this on 1 December in four parts where we will discuss all aspects of the plan with concrete measures to be taken from now on to achieve the goal.

The basis of the plan is a solid capacity of PV (on land) and wind power, mainly offshore.

TenneT and energy islands

It is very important for successful implementation that renewable energy capacity grows rapidly. For offshore wind, grid operator TenneT plays a big role. It is actively involved in the North Sea Wind Power Hub consortium with more information at https://northseawindpowerhub.eu/ . Energy islands are in planning. Jasper Vis (Tennet) will tell us about the opportunities and challenges.

The Ingenieur and KIVI website

A publication on this plan appeared in November's Ingenieur. The document can be found here and is a nice introduction. It is good to read this first. The energy plan is described in detail and can be found on the KIVI website https://www.kivi.nl/energieplan

The recordings made during the 2020 annual conference for the presentations on CO2 neutral energy supply in 2050; feasible and affordable can be seen again(part 1 and part 2) -of Eric Persoon , Koen Huizer, Jasper Vis (TenneT) and Steven Luitjens

The webinars can also be seen back at the KIVI Annual Conference 2020 under W13.
