EMC-ESD event 2023

Retrospective on 27 November 2023 by FHI federation for technology industries

EMC-ESD event dominated by innovations and new technologies
It was pleasantly busy at the EMC-ESD event, on 21 November at the Van der Valk Hotel in Vianen.
With 155 visitors, the halls were well filled and people were busy networking.
New this year were the demos at the stands. Visitors could see live how EMC measurements are done and what equipment is available for this purpose.
Both exhibitors and visitors could appreciate this set-up.
The strong content programme was also popular.
During the programme, everything revolved around the latest developments and trends around electromagnetic compatibility and electrostatic discharge within the electronics industry. A wide range of topics was covered, ranging from technological innovations to practical solutions for common challenges within the field.
New technologies
Wenli Shi from TU Delft opened the event with an overview lecture on the state of EMC and ESD. He addressed the impact of new technologies and materials around EMC/ESD prevention. WPT technology can achieve very efficient EV charging, provided special safety requirements are met, Shi said. He also talked about the importance of a holistic approach in designing electronic systems. Addressing challenges successfully requires close cooperation between different disciplines and stakeholders.
Accurate measurement
After Wenli Shi's plenary lecture, the group split into two where interested parties could choose from nine presentations spread over the day. Many lectures required chairs to be moved around, indicating how much the topics were alive among the audience. Tom Hartman of the University of Twente and Helko van den Brom of VSL closed the day. They talked about the often complex challenges involved in measuring static electricity, especially in relation to EMC and ESD.
The accurate measurement of static electricity is essential for the electronics industry, as it has a major impact on the reliability of electronic systems. During their presentation, Hartman and Van den Brom discussed methodologies to ensure reliable and accurate measurements in different environments and conditions.
Collaborate
Another important part of this year's event was the opportunity to network with like-minded peers. Visitors had ample opportunity to make new contacts and build relationships with people active in the same field. There was also a focus on working with the workforce of the future. Indeed, demos and poster presentations were given from educational institutions, allowing students and potential employees to get acquainted informally in advance.
The EMC-ESD event was an inspiring day! We thank the exhibitors, presenters and visitors for their presence and valuable contribution.

EMC-ESM Event 2023
The Dutch EMC-ESD Association is an association of about 150 professionals in the field of EMC and/or ESD. The association has a wide range of members who have in common that they are professionally involved in the field within their company, institution or organisation. This may be as an expert, or intermediary of information, or as a supplier or user of information, services or products and materials.
The fourth edition of this year's EMC-ESD event took place at Van der Valk Hotel Vianen.
In the technical lecture programme, exhibitors took you through the latest developments in the field of:
- Power electronics / EMC in installations
- Electronics design and EMC/ESD in devices
- EMC-ESD test & measurement
- Tools for standards and regulations

Plenary lectures
The three plenary presentations this year from TU Delft were on
- Wireless Power transfer, Trumpf (market leader in machine tools and lasers for industrial production) on EMC in machines and
- VSL/Universityof Twente on interference-sensitive electricity meters.

Practical demonstrations
Throughout the day, exhibitors and colleges/universities will give various demonstrations on the exhibition floor.
