New Year meeting Intelligent Grids
Description
On Wednesday 26 January at 4.30 pm, the Electrical Engineering Section will hold its New Year's Meeting at the Elektrum in Arnhem.
Recently, Intelligent Grids for electricity supply have attracted a lot of attention. The department has therefore decided to choose "Intelligent Grids" or "Smart Grids" as its theme for 2011. This theme will be elaborated in several activities in cooperation with key players and experts from science and industry.
We find this theme attractive for our members because in Intelligent Grids electricity generation and distribution, microelectronics and information technology meet. It is an application where, instead of ever-increasing economies of scale, sustainable, environmentally friendly and affordable solutions are on the horizon through the smart integration of different technologies. The meetings will focus not only on the technology and the drivers behind smart grids, but also on the goals to be achieved and the social aspects involved.
For this New Year's meeting, KEMA will act as host.
At 17.00, Thijs Aarten (member of KEMA's Executive Board) and Han Slootweg (manager Innovation Enexis and part-time professor of Smart Grids - TU Eindhoven) will outline to us the exciting future of Intelligent Grids.
Afterwards, we will raise a glass to 2011, 'the year of the Intelligent Grid'.
