Smart Energy NL promotes knowledge sharing on the energy transition.

It also facilitates acquaintance and cooperation between parties.

The group has existed since 2009 and has over 2,000 members.

They work, among others, at governments, developers, energy companies, educational institutions, grid managers, consultancies and contractors. Do you have a question? Feel free to contact us!

With some regularity, Smart Energy NL organises online knowledge sessions.

A session lasts one hour.

Two knowledgeable speakers give a presentation, after which there is plenty of room for questions.

Flexibility and direct current

In November, we scheduled two sessions. On 18 November, we focused on the key role of flexibility. And on 25 November, we will discuss the bumps and opportunities of direct voltage. See the programme below for more information. Participation is free of charge. You can register via the form at the bottom.

Subject: Bumps and opportunities of direct current

Date & start time: Wednesday 25 November (16h)

Walter Hulshorst, Smart Energy NL, introduction and introduction speakers

Henry Lootens, Stichting Gelijkspanning Nederland, 'The future of power electronics in infrastructure'

  • With the growth of sustainable electric generation and the electrification of our energy use, power electronics are playing an increasing role in our energy supply. One of the great features of these electronics is the use of direct current. What is the potential and current status of DC voltage technology in the energy transition?

Wilfred Akerboom, CityTec, 'Practical experience with direct voltage in the public obligation world'

  • Converting AC voltage to DC voltage costs energy. Direct use of DC voltage leads to more efficient use of energy and resources, more capacity in the power grid and an opportunity for better security. This is already widely practised in the public lighting world. What are the experiences and consequences gained here and what can direct current mean for the regular electricity grid?
