Smart Grids
Description
The Department of Electrical Engineering has declared 2011 the 'Year of the Smart Grid'.
During the New Year meeting on 26 January, we were guests of KEMA; two talks were given: Thijs Aarten, CEO Kema and Han Slootweg (Enexis/TU/e). They gave us a good insight into the how and what of Smart Grids. As a result of the input of Renewable Energy (Solar, Wind, Water), the grid function 'You ask, we deliver', is extended to include the intake and transmission of Renewable Energy, the source of which we cannot control. The question is then: 'how do we set up that control' and 'how do we motivate consumers to achieve the desired control?'
On 23 June, the first symposium took place in Gorinchem, for which around 80 interested parties had registered. This symposium was sponsored by Alliander and Enexis. Speakers were Geert Verbong, TU Eindhoven, Martijn Bongaerts, Alliander, Klaas Hommes, Tennet, Albert van den Noort, KEMA, Stefan Versluis, Shifft.
The presentations of these previous meetings can be found on the verslage section of this website (follow the Reports button on the left side of the page).
The second symposium will take place on 15 November. The venue will be Fort Bronsbergen in Bronsbergen (near Zutphen). Alliander has set up a pilot project here on a holiday park. If you want to zen and hear more about this, the programme will start at 12.00 (with a walk-in lunch with soup and sandwiches). When registering, please indicate if you would like to be present at this part of the programme
The final programme is as follows:
12.00 Reception of participants, with coffee, roll and soup
12.45 Explanation of the Smart Grid project Bronsbergen, by Sjef Cobben (Alliander), followed by viewing of the main components (until 14.15). Only limited space is available for this viewing; the order of registration (including earlier) counts.
14.00 Reception of other symposium participants
