E Lunch webinar: "What avenues are open to shape the transition from "Gas to Hydrogen"?"

Looking back From "Gas to Hydrogen" vision GasUnion
In this lunch webinar, we discussed the following questions:
- how can the Transition from "Gas to Hydrogen" be fleshed out and shaped?
- what are the implications for the natural gas grid, hydrogen imports and
- how is the connection with electricity.
All this seen from the viewpoint of the Gasunie.
Mr Adriaan de Bakker, Senior Advisor Strategy covered these aspects and set out the approach and strategy for an efficient transition.
During the webinar, possible solutions in pipeline network operations were discussed in more detail and highlighted, such as:
-
overview of hydrogen projects around the world,
-
the European hydrogen system,
-
natural gas and hydrogen costs, hydrogen scenarios generation, demand,
-
comparison of hydrogen and electricity storage,
-
the cost of conversion, such as electrolysis, import and technology,
-
efficiency of the entire energy chain,
-
suitability of the Gasunie pipeline system from gas to hydrogen, where and how;
-
overview of Gasunie hydrogen projects.
-
the service areas with the choice supply or not with gas or hydrogen.
-
clear simple explanation of the pipeline network and capacity limitations / possible solutions, suitable for a broad group of people
-
projection of the hydrogen pipeline network and how this can be coordinated with the electricity network
-
successful conversion of a natural gas pipeline to a hydrogen pipeline
-
solutions close to home, at neighbourhood, city, regional level are needed, but in connection with the larger pipeline network at (inter)national level.
-
current capacity shortages: over connection capacity, simultaneity and peak loads that only occur a few times a year
-
applications in mobility and industry
-
possible future market models with more price dynamics
-
role of the university: looking beyond the quick solutions that now solve acute problems,
-
how to build a future-proof energy system.
Hydrogen in NL: Energy for the near future?
Mr Adriaan de Bakker Senior, Advisor Strategy Gasunie, made successful contributions to the Delta plan Regional Energy Strategy. The symposium "Hydrogen in NL: Energy for the near future?" took place on 25 March 2021.
The follow-up with this E Lunch webinar will be an interesting story about challenges, possibilities and opportunities in the (strategic) approach to the transition from "Gas to Hydrogen".
