On Friday 13 December 2024, Eric Persoon was appointed Member of Merit of the Electrical Engineering Division.

Eric devoted many years to the Electrical Engineering Department and to KIVI in general. His contribution has mainly focused on the Electrical Engineering Activities Committee E-South. This was set up in 1992 by the Electrical Engineering Division "to bring the association closer to its members".

In 2004, Eric joined as a member of the committee. his vision was that KIVI should also act among engineering students, and for years there were meetings at Fontys and TU/e where projects were judged by a KIVI jury and the prize was a commemorative statuette and a free membership of KIVI for a year.

In 2014, he became the leader of E-Zuid. With the committee, he organised a series of meetings on the future of the Dutch energy system in the years 2014 - 2017 together with the Utrecht Sustainabiity Institute (USI). this resulted in a system study, conducted by E-Zuid members, Energy Plan NL 2050 (EnergyNL2050) in 2018. The study describes what an energy system free of CO2 emissions in the Netherlands could look like. This result contributed a lot to the discussion on the use of an energy system based on renewable energy in the Netherlands, which was in its infancy at the time.

As a follow-up, activities are still being organised around this topical theme, often in collaboration with TU/e.

The certificate was presented by Dion Gigengack (pictured right), the chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department in a joint meeting of the E-South Activities Committee and the Electrical Engineering Department.
