"Why do (large) projects fail? Systems thinking: a missing element"

Why do (large) projects fail?
Systems thinking: a missing element

After an introduction on system characteristics, some characteristic aspects are discussed:
- the objective of a project and its costs
- the boundaries of a system
- the influence of the outside world on the system and vice versa
- the division of the system into subsystems,
- dynamic characteristics
- model and reality
- sensitivity and (in)-stability
- feedback and forward control

These aspects are explained using concepts from control engineering such as: non-minimum phase systems, adaptive, learning and optimising controls and predictive control.

Various methods are discussed and examples are given and requested from very different areas (technical, organisational, economic, medical, etc.) (e.g. Mekelpark project, congestion problems).
