On the recommendation of the Board of the Department of the History of Engineeringthe Main Board of the Royal Institute of Engineers has appointedHans StoutjesdijkappointedMember of Meritof the Department of History of Technologyfor his outstanding merits for this departmentand for KIVI in general.
Hans Stoutjesdijk has been treasurer of the department since 2016. He fulfils that role with great commitment, professionally, conscientiously and very collegially. The department's finances are very healthy. The department has -against the trend- a stable, even slightly increasing membership and organises a well-attended lecture at TU Delft every month. Hans was always helpful in organising those monthly lectures and their financial handling.
Hans especially plays a key role in the multi-day trips we undertake as a section. In this regard, he is the right-hand man of travel commissioner Ton Boele on all domestic and foreign excursions. He draws up the budgets for those trips and arranges the registrations.
Hans was also actively involved in the financing of the booklet published by the History of Engineering Section on the occasion of KIVI's 175th anniversary: "The Three Founders of the Royal Institute of Engineers".
That presentation took place on 26 October 2024 by Henk Sips (left in the picture), chairman of Histechnica and board member of KIVI History of Engineering.
