Description

50 years of gas in NL
... and beyond
... prepare for the next 50 years

By Hans van Luijk, Gasunie

The Netherlands has been enjoying the bonanza of its large natural gas resources for the past 50 years. Gas plays a central role in the country's energy supply as well as a major source of income for the government. This can and will not last. The Dutch gas production has reached it's limits. The question is therefore:
How will the gas industry develop in the next 50 years, both in the Netherlands and in a converging Europe? What is happening? These questions will be addressed not in the format of the well known energy scenarios, but from the perspective from the developments which are taking place in the gas infrastructure

50 years of gas in the Netherlands
.... and then
... steps for the next 50 years

By Hans van Luijk, Gasunie

For 50 years the Netherlands has enjoyed the bonanza of its gas reserves. Gas plays a central role in the Dutch energy supply and is also an indispensable source of income for the state treasury. This cannot and will not continue. The limits of NL gas production have been reached. So the question is:
How will the gas industry develop over the next 50 years in NL and EU? What is happening? These questions will be discussed not in the familiar energy scenarios but from the perspective of gas infrastructure developments.
