The future of Shell Pernis
"Developing at the Shell refinery in Pernis" was presented by Frans Dumoulin.
How will the site be positioned for the future where we as a society will go through an energy transition and what is the role of the largest refining/petrochemical complex in Europe in that. The role of the SDA project and what the impact on the site is: 1) Business case, 2) Technology and 3) Project execution.
The lecture was held at Buccaneer on the Paardenmarkt in Delft, which also hosted pitches from start-ups in the energy and offshore industry before the lecture. Evening was great success partly due to the different ambiance and animated participation of more than 75 participants and the hospitality of Buccaneer. All in line with the results of the recent survey of our OG members.
Description
The future of Shell Pernis: cleaner production in a challenging market.
Frans Dumoulin, Shell Pernis production manager, will explain how Europe's largest refining and petrochemical complex is responding to the changing energy market with new projects. With incremental improvements and investments, in recent years the product range has become cleaner, environmental impact lower and energy efficiency higher. During this successful journey, financial robustness has also increased.
Currently, the recently announced Solvent De-Asphalting (SDA) project in Pernis is under active construction. During the lecture, we will reflect on why the SDA project is a logical next step. The challenges in terms of technology, project execution and operational organisation will also be highlighted.
This activity will take place at Buccaneer Delft, an accelerator for young and start-up technology companies in the energy and offshore sector
