Poetic Engineering
Description
On Friday 23 January 2015, Jeanne Dekkers will give the lecture 'Poetic Engineering - Designing from sensory experience' at the ABC architecture centre.
Following the exhibition, Architecture Platform Sense & Care - which is part of Jeanne Dekkers Architecture - shows the research into the sensory experience of the environment surrounding us. In a visual manner, the underlying philosophy is explained, leading to insight into designing from experience through the senses.
The aim of the platform Sense & Care is to advance the current discussion on design through analysis, in order to then formulate a working method for designing from sensory experience. At the exhibition in the ABC, results of this approach are shown on the basis of realised projects by Jeanne Dekkers Architecture.
Background info
Jeanne Dekkers Architecture realises buildings from a specific design vision of the built environment. For each design task, the office seeks the most specific answer possible, with the start of each design process being a thorough acquaintance with the task by formulating the problem and investigating important aspects of the final building. These aspects are 'looking and listening' to the site, the programme of requirements, the client's and user's wishes and culture and the search for invisible elements that characterise the assignment. In the office's vision, these are important to get the best possible picture of the assignment. Each design task is approached from the history and significance of the location; 'the gift of the place'. By finding the uniqueness of the place, the characteristic of the client's wish and the uniqueness of hidden existing meanings, a new image is created that leads to a unique translation in the design. Poetry (light and space, colour and texture) and engineering (size and proportion, technology and detail) are the firm's key ingredients for a building that works well in every way and that everyone is proud of. The architecture platform Sense and Care is part of Jeanne Dekkers Architecture.
