R60: Design will never be the same!
Description
'Design will never be the same!"
On the digital revolution, the rapidly changing world and the new role of the designer.
In many ways, a parallel can be drawn between the industrial revolution and the times we live in today. More than two centuries ago, it was also technological leaps that enabled change and were the reason we started thinking differently about creating products, not to mention the use and experience of products. The digital revolution, and let's let it start in the mid-80s for the sake of convenience, has turned our doing and thinking upside down. As consumers, we are on a rollercoaster. The digital revolution has changed our behaviour, shifted our norms and substantially altered the way we look at things. And there is no reason to believe that this evolution is coming to an end.
The design profession has rarely been as rattled as it has been in the past decade. The boundaries between disciplines have fallen away, skills we could excel in have become a commodity and, to make matters worse, the whole world is going to design with us. So it is interesting to wonder what role is in store for the new designer. And how we are going to ensure that that role is filled with verve
