The experience of nonwovens
Description
the experience of...' is a series of meetings where one material is highlighted each time. MaterialDesign is organising 'The experience of nonwovens' on 20 February 2013. Nonwovens are a category of textile materials that are neither woven nor knitted. Unlike the traditional manufacture of a textile fabric, no yarn is therefore used, but the material is laid directly as a fibre or filament in a nonwoven and then stitched together. In the process, the fibres or filaments may or may not be oriented (directed or undirected webs). The structure can be very different. It varies from barely to very intensely bonded, supple to stiff, compact to high-voluminous. (Source: Wikipedia)
Nonwovens are used in very many different applications. Major applications include: clothing (Alcantara), sanitary towels and nappies, mops, cleaning cloths, chamois, disposable surgery sheets, clothing and protective equipment, filtration, insulation materials, backing for (car) carpets, etc.
Several years ago, MaterialDesign organised meetings on the themes "the experience of technical textiles" (Van Wees, Tilburg) and "the experience of felt" (Nevima, Amersfoort). In fact, both were about nonwovens, but very specifically.
Host of this meeting is Lantor in Veenendaal, a leading company in the field of high-quality industrial applications of nonwovens.
