Description

In two hours, learn how to make a piston pump from a PVC pipe and marbles. The Werkgroep OntwikkelingsTechnieken (WOT) from Enschede has worked out the design of the marble pump in a very readable construction manual and will guide us in making the pumps that afternoon. The pumps may be taken away after the workshop.

"The marble pump or EMAS pump is a simple piston pump made of PVC, with a glass marble as a non-return valve. The pump is extremely cheap (about $12), making it suitable as a family pump. The EMAS pump was developed by Wolfgang Buchner of the EMAS School of Water and Sanitation in Bolivia. Some 20,000 EMAS pumps are in use in Bolivia."
