Description

IMPLEMENTATION OF WATER AND NATURE OPERATIONS IN THE GELDERSE VALLEI
USE OF IMPLEMENTING AREAS

In the Netherlands, we are again working hard on adjustments to regional water management. This is to achieve current goals for the functioning of the water system in conjunction with nature and other land use. Whereas the goal after World War II was primarily to create land for agricultural production, it is now about space for water and nature.

One example is the Gelderse Valley. There, the Stichting Vernieuwing Gelderse Vallei, the Vallei & Eem Water Board and the provinces are working together to implement the current water and nature task. An important framework is the implementation of the 2005 Reconstruction Plan.

This meeting will provide you with information on how what is needed in Gelderse Vallei has been determined and how policy goals are converted into implementation projects. Naturally, what is involved will be discussed. Coherent realisation of tasks, cooperation and intensive coordination prove indispensable and time-consuming. To speed up implementation, it was decided to draw up Design Images for the brooks and dehydration projects in the area. These 'images' offer stakeholders a concrete representation of the intended layout in view of objectives to be realised on site. These are objectives for WFD, WB21, desiccation of nature and realisation of the National Ecological Network.
