Description

In order to investigate the physical processes occurring in ice, studies have been performed at MARIN using several artificial materials to substitute classic model ice. Two pilot projects were performed in MARIN's Concept Basin.

The first pilot considers a ship model that was towed through a channel of artificial ice particles, assessing the submergence component as part of the total ice resistance. Destructive propeller-ice interaction tests have been performed with a material with scaled compressive strength.
The results of both pilot projects will be presented and are accompanied by insightful videos
