Description

Marine structures predominantly experience varying loading and most of these structures contain thousands of welded joints. The combination of these factors often limits the fatigue lifetime of marine structures. While a range of fatigue lifetime prediction concepts have been proposed, the fatigue calculations made by structural engineers often fail to match the actual fatigue performance of marine structures in service. One reason for this mismatch is that different types of fatigue-prone locations require the application of different calculation methods. This lecture presents, explains and applies a new unified method. Although this method will not completely eliminate fatigue problems in marine structures, it will reduce the health threat for structural engineers! Curious? Join the lecture!
