Structural Reality @ scale
Description
How to model ship's flexibility in model? Recent research has shown that wave-induced vibrations due to whipping and springing can have a significant contribution on the fatigue damage accumulated in the ship hull. Current state-of-the-art numerical tools are incapable of accurately and efficiently predicting whipping and springing. This means that model tests with a flexible model are necessary. In his presentation, Ingo Drummen will discuss the design of flexible models at MARIN. He will also explain how this type of model tests fits with MARIN's ambition to be able to give tailored advice on lifetime ensurance in the design and operational stage of ships.
