Velocity Prediction Program
Description
Every year, sailing competitions are sailed in Friesland with the traditional 'skûtsjes', an event that attracts tens of thousands of interested spectators.
The committee organising the competitions has asked TU Delft to provide means by which the competition will be as fair as possible.
To this end, model tests in a tow tank and a wind tunnel were carried out, resulting in a 'Velocity Prediction Program' (VPP) tailored to this type of vessel.
The lecture will explain the background of the hydromechanical and aerodynamic models and the resulting VPP. The results of this VPP for individual vessels will also be compared for a chosen raceway and various wind speeds.
