Description

The Corus IJmuiden reheat furnaces are significantly non-linear and have a combination of very slow and fast dynamics. In this study a rigorous dynamic model has been developed from which piecewise linear models have been derived. These piecewise linear models form the internal model for the model predictive controller. The performance of the controller has been compared to the current furnace control strategy.
The lecture gives an overview of the thesis and elaborates on the following question: How to formulate the MPC as a generic optimisation problem and how to implement piecewise linear models in that formulation.

This lecture is part of a series of three guest lecturers at the Control Systems Engineering programme at the Arnhem and Nijmegen University of Applied Sciences.
