With a substantial group of 40 people, we gathered in one of the lecture halls of the Avans Hogeschool in Breda to attend a guest lecture by Giel Jurgen, Asset Owner at the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

The first part of the guest lecture gave us a general impression of the Port Authority and the many challenges related to Asset Management. In particular, increasing transport, accessibility, ageing assets and changing legislation are the current challenges, said Giel Jurgens. The Port of Rotterdam Authority therefore sees the solution in Asset Management and Maintenance management.

The second and final part of the lecture dealt with the business cases Life Time Extension (LTE) or life cycle extension. Two business cases were discussed, namely the LTE of ±35km of quay walls and the LTE of 2 patrol vessels. Special about the first case is that a special evaluation software was designed for this purpose that can simulate the end-of-life of the quay walls.
