Many developments are taking place in the field of battery technology. Current battery technology has not yet reached a level where large-scale introduction of electric vehicles is possible. In addition, the weight aspect of batteries in electric vehicles is a major concern. This symposium presented current and future developments in battery technology. It also looked at the differences and parallels in battery technology from the aerospace industry, an industry in which weight in particular plays a very big role.

Three presentations were made:

Prof Dirk Uwe Sauer, RWTH Aachen. Institut fuer Stromrichtertechnik und Elektrische Antriebe (ISEA). Presentation title: "The battery - Bottleneck for the E-Mobility?"
Harm-Jan de Graaf, Dutch Space, Presentation title: "Electric power subsystems in satellites."
Henrik Engdahl, Viktoria Institute Sweden, Presentation title: "Electrical specification of energy storages for hybrid commercial vehicles."
