Description

About Oriental dance:

Oriental dance or belly dance, as it is known in the West, has its origins as social entertainment in large parts of North Africa and the Middle East. In the 20th century, it evolved into a true performing art and the dance as we know it today. Although belly dance mostly focuses on moving the torso and hips, it is actually an art of learning to isolate, control and move the entire body separately from or together with each other. Belly dance is closely linked to Arabic music, which the dancer translates with her body.

As one of the most natural dance forms, it can be practised by anyone, regardless of age or physique. The dance promotes muscle strength and posture and is known to reduce back and neck pain. It is also great fun to do!

In the workshop you will learn the basic movements of belly dance as used in Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt. We will also learn to combine movements in a short choreography.

The workshop will be taught by Iris (www.irisbellydance.com):

Iris' love for Oriental dance was born at Ana Danst (www.anadanst.nl), the Eindhoven dance school that has been her home base since day one and where she gained much of her strong technique and knowledge of various Arabic dance styles. Her personal dance style is rooted in the Egyptian style, provided with strong technical American influences.
Iris continuously studies Oriental dance as a dancer and choreographer and has already won several international awards with her dance, including the Benelux and world titles.

As a professional dancer, Iris remains closely associated with Ana Danst, where she teaches regular classes and is active as a choreographer and dancer with show team "El-Fatinat".

After the workshop, there will be an opportunity to eat at Inge's Eettafel (www.ingeseettafel.nl) in the same building complex.
Cost for workshop participants: free for KIVI members, 5 euros for non-KIVI members. Dinner is at own expense.

Dresscode: Easy dancewear, t-shirt not too loose, scarf for around hips, bare feet or dancing shoes, socks only if they are non-slip (due to slippery floor).

Sign up until Friday 13 November at the latest with options: belly dance workshop only / belly dance workshop and dinner / dinner only
