An inspiring, enthusiastic and sparkling start to 2010!

Panel debate 7 Jan: The glass ceiling: does it exist or not? Success factors for the (female) career

To kick off the new year, an interactive panel debate took place on Thursday 7 January 2010 at the KIVI NIRIA building in The Hague. Under the guidance of Ellen Joy Groosman (former alderman of Maassluis), three gentlemen and three ladies from companies and institutes debated with each other which core qualities, in their view, are necessary for a successful career, especially focusing on the female career. Stimulating propositions were used to elicit the panelists' views, not avoiding debate among themselves and with the audience: high EQ or high IQ, authoritarian leadership style or empowerment to the team, kids or no kids, substance or charisma, getting to the top as soon as possible or a more long-term ambition to rise to great heights in various fields?

Panelists were: Roelf Venhuizen (former NAM director), Elphi Nelissen (founder-director Nelissen Ingenieursbureau and board member of VHTO), Henk Nieboer (director Witteveen & Bos), Marjan van Loon (Vice President LNG Shell), René Drost (Head of Instrumentation AMC), Merel van Vroonhoven (board member of NS).
Both the panelists and the participants in the room were enormously enthusiastic!

Description

The glass ceiling: does it exist or not?
Success factors for the (female) career

The NVI would like to invite you to a panel debate prior to the New Year reception. You are welcome from 13:45.

May 2009, the NVI - network of female engineers - was founded. Its membership has grown tremendously in a short time and the influx to its activities has exceeded all expectations. The network would like to usher in the new year with a fresh start by organising an interactive debate prior to the New Year's reception.

Under the guidance of Ellen Joy Groosman (former Maassluis alderman), three gentlemen and three ladies from companies and institutes will discuss which core qualities they believe are necessary for a successful career, with a particular focus on the female career. By means of stimulating propositions, the views of the panel members will be elicited, whereby the debate among themselves and with the audience will not be shunned: a high EQ or a high IQ, an authoritarian leadership style or empowerment to the team, kids or no kids, content or charisma, getting to the top as soon as possible or a more long-term ambition to rise to great heights in various fields?

Panel members: Roelf Venhuizen (former NAM director), Elphi Nelissen (founder-director Nelissen Ingenieursbureau and board member of VHTO), Henk Nieboer (director Witteveen & Bos), Marjan van Loon (Vice President LNG Shell), René Drost (Head of Instrumental Company AMC), Merel van Vroonhoven (board member of NS)
