'Team Effectiveness & Diversity' workshop strengthens power of difference among Women Engineers

On Wednesday 25 June, an inspiring workshop took place at VIKTOR in Rotterdam within the mentoring programme of the KIVI Network of Women Engineers (NVI), with the theme: Team Effectiveness & Diversity - Working with the Power of Difference. Taught by trainer Sandra Minnee of Teaming Up, the session brought together an engaged group of female engineers who attended en masse despite NATO diversions.

During the interactive afternoon, participants explored how differences in thinking styles, working methods and perspectives can actually contribute to better team results. Sandra challenged the group with questions such as: How do you create openness and results in a team where everyone is different? And how do you prevent diversity from actually leading to miscommunication or stagnation?

Using exercises and reflection, participants worked on trust and awareness of each other's qualities. In doing so, communication was unanimously named as the biggest challenge in teamwork - and this was precisely what was emphasised in this session.

The workshop marked the third meeting within the NSA mentoring programme. Two more sessions and a final meeting will follow:

  1. Workshop on Work Happiness with Mijntje Kuiper
  2. Workshop Marketing for your career with Karen Rensma
