On Friday 20 January 2023, KIVI Department of Nuclear Technology (KIVI NT) will hold its annual general members' meeting with an associated symposium on new initiatives in nuclear fusion and small modular reactors. The meeting will be held at the KIVI building, Prinsessegracht 23 in The Hague.

The programme is as follows:

12:45 - 13:15 Walk-in with coffee

13:15 - 14:30 General Members Meeting KIVI Nuclear Technology

14:30 - 16:30 hrs Symposium new initiatives nuclear fusion and small modular reactors:

14:30 - 15:15 LIFE: Rob Strijland (Prodegy Clean Energy, CAN) "Transportable Nuclear Power Plants, an Option to Increase Carbon-Free Energy Security in The Netherlands"

Shipyard-manufactured, transportable, and rapidly-deployed. Prodigy Clean Energy's 924 MWe Small Modular Reactor (SMR) marine facility powered by NuScale, is a turnkey solution to bring safe, affordable, carbon-free and reliable power to the Netherlands by the end of the decade. With a strong Dutch and North American consortium, this national energy asset would stimulate the use of the Netherlands' world-class maritime domestic supply chain and support rising energy demand. Power generated would provide a base load complement for wind energy, fortifying economic sustainability and the Netherlands' clean energy future for generations to come.

15:15 - 15:45 Break with coffee and tea

15:45 - 16:30 REMOTE: Alex Creely (Commonwealth Fusion Systems, USA) "Fusion Energy Startups"

CFS is using high-temperature superconductors to build smaller and lower-cost tokamak fusion systems. CFS will build first-of-its-kind high temperature superconducting magnets, followed by the world's first net energy-producing fusion machine, called SPARC. SPARC will pave the way for the first commercially viable fusion power plant, called ARC.

16:30 - 17:55 drinks with snacks

The annual meeting will look back on the activities of the year 2022 and look ahead to the planned activities of the year 2023. Furthermore, new president and treasurer will be elected and a vote will be taken for the term extension of one other board member. Departing board members are Mario van der Borst (chairman) and Arjan Bos (treasurer). Nominated are Ginevra Delfini (chairman) and Bart Bouma (treasurer). Geert-Jan Haas is entering his third term, which requires member approval.

The meeting is open to members of KIVI Nuclear Engineering, patrons of NNS and patrons of Nuclear Vision. During the meeting, only members of KIVI Nuclear Technology have voting rights.

Participation in the meeting is free for KIVI members and patrons of NNS and Kernvisie. Students also have free access, for others participation costs €25.00.
