The Life cycle of medical radioiso.
Description
The Life cycle of medical radioisotopes, from production to final disposal - Part 2
On 23 March 2012, the Dutch Society for Medicine, Kivi Niria KE, Netherlands Nuclear Society and COVRA will organise a symposium at Covra, in Borssele (Zeeland). This symposium is the second in the "Medical & Nuclear" series. It will discuss nuclear medical activities in the Netherlands at both the level of the nuclear supply chain and at the level of medical applications. The first symposium "Radiopharmaceuticals, the production chain" was held on 24 June at Cyclotron BV, in Amsterdam. This highlighted the chain from isotope production in reactors and accelerators to medical application. The next symposium "The Life Cycle of Medical Radioisotopes" will address the life cycle of radioisotopes. The common thread concerns the nuclear waste stream in isotope production, in the hospital, and in the development of new radioisotopes. Finally, the processing of this waste at COVRA
will be discussed. The topics will be highlighted by speakers from the hospital, the radiopharmaceutical industry, and waste treatment. The symposium on 23 March 2012 will be held in the afternoon, with an opportunity for a field trip at Covra in the morning
