Description

Lecture evening with the topic: "General overview of the Arctic and Encountered Ice Behaviours for the Offshore Industry".

The Arctic regions are holding around 30% of the world's offshore gas reserves and 13% of the oil reserves. Today these reserves are largely untapped but future development plans and associated new technology deployment are rapidly expanding. A better understanding of the Arctic challenges by the industry and regulators is required.
This lecture will provide a general overview of the Arctic and the ice features that can be encountered. In addition, the proposed ISO 19906 Arctic Structures Standard and its use will be discussed. More specifically it covers a wider understanding of Arctic sea ice/metocean behaviours/ice loading and technologies/risks in Arctic developments for the offshore industry including offshore structures, pipelines, shipping/marine operability, ice management, safety/EER and human factor considerations. Region's that will receive special attention are Yamal and Alaska.

Speaker(s)

Rune Nilsen (who will replace Walt Spring, owner of Bear Ice Technology).

Rune Nilsen is an experienced Ice expert who has worked for many years in Artic environment and has similar background to Walt Spring.
