Sloshing in LNG Tanks
Description
Lecture evening on the topic: "Sloshing in LNG tanks".
At the turn of 2007 full scale wave impact tests have been carried out by MARIN in the frame of the Sloshel project. Unidirectional breaking waves were generated in a flume in order to impact an instrumented transverse wall with embedded test structures, i.e. a rigid structure and the N096 membrane containment system. In 2009 these tests were reproduced at scale 1 to 6. Finally, in 2010 new full scale impact tests on the MarkIII membrane containment system were performed.
The main goals of these tests were to create a sound database for validation of numerical simulations and to develop a physical understanding on 1. how to scale pressure measurements, 2. what is the hydro-structural behavior of membrane containment systems and 3. what are the interactions between the wave impact and the corrugations of the MarkIII membrane.
In this presentation, the test setup will be described, results discussed and it will be demonstrated how the results are used by the project partners
Speaker(s)
Hannes Bogaert, Researcher Hydro-structural Services at MARIN.
SPECIAL NOTES
* There will be an opportunity to join the sponsored bread meal at 18.00.
* The pre-bread meal and the drinks afterwards will be offered by MARIN.
* The drinks afterwards will be held in café "de Posthoorn" on the Lange Voorhout.
* You can register to participate in the bread meal until 18 January at the latest.
* After 18 January, you can still register - as long as the maximum number of participants has not yet been reached - but no sandwich meal will be reserved for you. You will then be expected at 7pm
