Ethics in the digital age
Description
Ethics in the digital age, Facebook as a news medium.
The digital age poses new ethical problems, with some believing that technology is being rolled out on us and we no longer have much choice.
According to Marcel Becker, humans can indeed adjust dangerous developments, precisely if they face them honestly. He adducts his thesis with the influence of Facebook¬ news on the democratic process. If democracy benefits from broad participation, then surely it is only beautiful if many people participate via Facebook? Or is there something in (the design of) Facebook that is steering conversations in the wrong direction? How is it that fake news ends up on Facebook?
And who is responsible for keeping it off?
Dr Marcel Becker addresses these questions. He is University Lecturer in Ethics at Radboud University Nijmegen and published 'Ethics of digital media' (Boom, 2015)
