The Board of the Philosophy and Engineering Department has the pleasure of inviting you to Dr M.R. Alfano's lecture on 13 June next on the topic 'Social Media. Wisdom or Madness'.

The presentation on social media will focus on whether it promises to deliver the wisdom of crowds or the madness of masses.

About the speaker
Mark Alfano is associate professor of philosophy at Delft University of Technology. He received a PhD from the Philosophy Programme of the City University of New York Graduate Center (CUNY GC) in 2011, and is a postdoctoral fellow at the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study and the Princeton University Center for Human Values, as well as an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Oregon.

Mark works on moral psychology, broadly conceived to include ethics, epistemology, philosophy of opinion, and the philosophy of psychology. He also maintains an interest in Nietzsche, with an emphasis on Nietzsche's psychological views. His papers have appeared in numerous journals, including Philosophical Quarterly, The Monist, Erkenntnis, Synthesis, and the British Journal for the History of Philosophy.

The Annual Meeting of the Philosophy and Engineering Section will be held prior to the lecture. This meeting will start at 17:30. A sandwich meal will be served for members attending the meeting.
