On 24 June 2013, KIVI's Council of Members approved the establishment of the new KIVI Risk Management and Technology Section (KIVI-RBT), followed by the kick-off meeting, also the first General Assembly (ALV), on 9 October 2013. Meanwhile, this still young multidisciplinary department has over 170 members; i.e. about 1% of all KIVI members are KIVI-RBT members.
In recent years, plenty of attention has been paid to socially relevant and topical subjects in (mini) symposia and workshops. In addition, the department aims to make safety thinking, based on systematic risk analysis(s), more widely known both inside and outside KIVI. After all, conscious and unconscious risks are taken in every design process and every business operation. KIVI-RBT classifies these according to the widely known 4-quadrant model: 1. Known and Aware, 2. Known and Unaware, 3. Unknown and Aware (blind spots) and 4. Unknown and Unaware (black holes). Recent incidents, accidents and disasters have been investigated by the department and the risks taken by the designers and operators, which led to the incident, have been determined.
The department has a sub-structure with a Programme Committee, which extends into three focus areas, each with its own portfolio holder: Analysis and Investigation (A&O), Practice and Implementation (P&I) and Communication and Information (C&I). The current departmental board has now reached the end of its first or second term of office. In accordance with the current KIVI statutes, appointments and any reappointments have to be submitted to and approved by the ALV.
Currently, an ALV 2020-2021 is planned after the KIVI Annual Conference 2020. Given the current COVID-19 measures, the nature of this meeting (virtual or otherwise) will be decided by the end of November.
At the end of 2020, the following board positions will become vacant:
- CHAIR
- SECRETARY
- PENNING MASTER
- STUDENT / YOUNG KIVI-RBT MEMBER (≤ 35 years old)
The KIVI-RBT Programme Committee, charged by the KIVI-RBT board with carrying out activities and drawing up annual plans, invites candidates to apply to rbt@kivi.nl. The department is pursuing board rejuvenation and broadening the department board with board members from other KIVI departments. In addition, the department is still looking for women on our board.
