Hereby, we would like to invite you to the "Meet & Greet 2025" meeting. This time, the Meet & Greet will be held on a Saturday, making the meeting accessible to a wider audience and especially to young engineers and students. Of course, members of other KIVI departments are welcome to participate.

With this meeting, we want to keep members up to date on the activities of the department and also offer the opportunity to get to know the board and other DT members.

In addition to four interesting lectures, we will have a theme as usual, this time it is:
Green is the new Gold.

The interactive presentations will definitely help us a little further on how we as engineers can get an idea of what sustainable development is and how others are working on it. In addition, there will be plenty of time to exchange views on this interactively.
In short, a day with interesting and up-to-date sustainability technologies with applications!

The programme for the day is as follows:

10:00Welcome with coffee and tea
10:45Opening by Wim van Beers, chairman KIVI Sustainable Technology
11:00

How is TenneT shaping the Netherlands' biggest ever rebuild?

Presentation by John Verduijn, Lead Engineering TenneT.

Energy transition and economic growth are placing increasing demands on the electricity grid. In many places in the Netherlands, the demand for electricity transmission capacity is greater than the grids can currently handle: grid congestion. Rapid expansion of the electricity grid is necessary.

How TenneT does this and what is involved is presented.

12:00

The challenges around hydrogen to residential centres

Leo Brummelkamp tells how Alliander gained hydrogen experience with a project in Lochem, where hydrogen central heating boilers have been burning in 12 homes since November 2022. With this pilot, Alliander wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to use existing pipelines to transport hydrogen. This presentation will cover why Alliander is looking at hydrogen solutions in the first place, what we all encountered during the pilot and what the future of the pilot will look like.

13:00Lunch/discussion

Possibilities with "Grass, the green gold"

Presentation by Elma Schoenmakers and Frits van Bergen Henegouw

The ladder of Lansink teaches that reuse of waste is one of the most desirable and sustainable treatments of waste.

Biorefinery of verge grass demonstrates this sustainability; refining with a heavy screw press and some follow-up operations creates a cascade of new materials. These glass wool and wood substitute grass fibres and the fertiliser and soy substitute grass juices come from the grass regionally, according to fixed recipes.

We show the developments of isolation fibre production and also how grass juice leads to green proteins and plant nutrition. All these products thus compete with fossil products. This produces new local production of sustainable products --> From waste residues to products from plants.

15:00

All about "Hydrogen in Practice"

Frank Mietes takes you through the world of hydrogen in a nutshell: what it is, how to make and transport it, what makes it so unique for the energy transition and some use cases.

16:00Closure by the chairman and opportunity for follow-up discussions over drinks
16:30End of the meeting

See you on 8 March!

On behalf of the Board of KIVI Sustainable Technology,

Wim van Beers, chairman.
