Muiden / MyEarth Evolution: From war defence to climate defence
Introduction
The KIVI Department of Sustainable Technology (DT) invites interested KIVI members to a fascinating presentation and interesting tour of Muiden.
From a historical point of view, people used to be convinced that defences 1.0 with enclosures and inundation areas were necessary to protect themselves against the enemy. aar besides, worldwide the landscape has become flat due to deforestation for agricultural space and building, and the remaining primary forests and rainforests are vulnerable due to fires and space extraction. This means that the natural evolutionary process, partly due to traffic and unbridled energy use over the past century, has lost its capacity for a healthy balance. This has created a new enemy, climate change, which is striking globally and endangering our survival.
Now it is time for a new strong evolution through a charter which, as 'Successive Earth Evolution', is going to become the 2.0 defence model for climate recovery in economic terms for the Netherlands. In Muiden where a lot of history has already been written, in anticipation of the 7th Floriade '22, it will be explained how we should tackle global climate and eef environment issues first locally, then nationally and in an EU context.
As a historic fortified city, Muiden houses the three most important Dutch defences, which also originated here. They are the Muiderslot (1280), the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie (1815) and the Stelling van Amsterdam (1894). These are unique chapters in our history for the Netherlands, which will fascinate modern engineers because of the achievements with limited resources from those periods.
Its educational and tourist character also makes for a good economy now. During an excursion with guides from the City Compass, this will be explained.
It further tells about utilising the fields of fire and flanks of the A1 motorway for climate defence with greenery harvested as biomass for clean gasification technology. No pollution is created in this process. The yield from 100% CO2 is 70% Methane gas and 30% captureable CO2ÂÂ for further processing to for hydrogen production.
