Plant-e
Description
Plant-e is a spin-off company from Wageningen UR. With two founders, Marjolein Helder and David Strik and a handful of thesis students and interns, Plant-e is a fast-growing sustainable small business.
Plant-e has developed a technique that allows green electricity to be tapped from living plants. During the growth process of plants, electricity can be produced without harvesting the plant itself. A plant uses sunlight for photosynthesis, producing organic material in the process. Much of this organic material ends up in the soil where bacteria break it down. During this breakdown process, the bacteria give off electrons, which can be collected at electrodes included in the system
