Stakeholder Communication
Description
In the Netherlands, communication with stakeholders about projects, which may have significant impact on people, the environment and/or landscape, is in many cases difficult. The communication often leads to positions being taken by supporters and opponents, who then dare not go back on their opinions because they will lose face. The communication then takes place on an emotional level and no longer on a rational level.
Countless examples have passed in review in recent years:
- the placing of wind turbines on land,
- the use of nuclear energy,
- the natural gas drilling and production in the Wadden Sea,
- and quite recently the CO2 storage under Barendrecht.
The aim of this meeting is to discuss, on the basis of examples such as those given above, how this communication can be improved.
Expert and inspiring speakers will give their views. To this end, a number of people, who have been involved in a number of such projects, have been asked to act as moderators at this meeting. In the interests of constructive discussion, some demarcation is necessary. The main focus will be on communication with interest groups by the energy sector regarding its projects with an impact on people, the environment and/or the landscape, in particular CO2 storage projects.
