State of Affairs Top Sector Agrofood
"The Netherlands in ten years to top 5 of knowledge economies"

On 1 March 2011, the Top Sector Policy was launched within the Ministry of EL&I. To this end, 'top teams' per top sector were formed to realise the ambition declared by the government in 2010 to "The Netherlands in ten years to top 5 of the world's knowledge economies". This led to the definition of 9 top sectors of our economy (water, agri-food, horticulture, high-tech, life sciences, chemistry, energy, logistics and creative industry).

In order to realise the ambition within 10 years, it is necessary to work with great drive, expertise, perseverance to define realistic objectives and concrete implementation plans. It is therefore interesting to know where we (NL) stand after one and a half years. In consultation with the Top Team, it was decided to use the Top Sector Agrofood to paint a picture of this. Mr Marc Hoenders, secretary of the Agrofood Top Team, will do so. Topics will include:

- Vision of business by universities, business and ministry(s)
- Why Top Sectors approach, how does it work
- Top Sector selection criteria, why these 9 top sectors?
- Confidence - international: where the Netherlands stands
- Profile and cohesion of the Top Sectors
- Cooperation with universities, universities of applied sciences, companies, engineering firms, other ministries and governments
- Roadmap for development and realisation of plans
- Consequences for Legislation and Regulation, place and role of education and science
- Characteristics Agrofood top sector
- State of affairs Agrofood to the Top

Next, Mr Charon Zondervan, project leader at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), will give a presentation. Research (WUR) will make a presentation on the state of affairs of this top sector as seen from the research institute WUR.
