Retrospective IT Infra event 2021

On Tuesday 16 November, Elbert Raben, chairman of the IT Infra steering committee, opened the FHI IT Infra event 2021 in the 1931 conference centre in Bossche. Raben welcomed the exhibitors, the many speakers, the 125 visitors who attended in person as well as the 75 participants who experienced the event online. While last year's edition was purely online (with lectures from the FHI studio), this edition was a successful form of a hybrid event.

Daan Terpstra of the SDIA Foundation opened the day. In his lecture, he pointed out the importance of European investments in an in-house cloud infrastructure. Because by developing a European counterweight, you can make a fist against tech giants like Google, Microsoft and Amazon.

Participants could alternate between visiting the stands to do some old-fashioned networking and catch up on the latest news and attending lectures.

Traditionally, much of the lecture programme was completed in different sessions. For example, Pieter Bikker (Wagner) spoke about the challenges involved in providing advanced fire protection in the data centre, while Geert Bakker (C.N. Rood) explained the latest techniques for testing MPO connectors. Michael Diks (Intronics) also gave the audience new insights into the latest MPO cabling.

Data centres will also have different revenue models in the future. Eaton gave a talk highlighting the potential of UPSs as a new revenue stream, connecting a UPS to the power grid for stabilisation purposes. A 1MWh UPS installation can earn 50,000 euros a year.

The topic of branch boxes was also covered during a webinar by Jeroen van der Linden of AP-Nederland. He gave useful series of tips, such as sharing delivery documents via SharePoint and taking failures into account during assembly.

Sustainability

In the afternoon, led by Robbert Hoeffnagel, there followed an interesting panel discussion with Arno van Gennip (Equinix), Eric Lisica (Iron Mountain) and Rob Stevens, (Interconnect). They talked about the state of affairs surrounding the sustainability of data centres in the Netherlands and all concluded that a lot has already been done in this area in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, a little more will have to be done in the coming years.

The lectures ended with a keynote by Freya Macke of Arcadis. Climate change concerns us all and therefore also the data centre world. In a clear presentation, Macke indicated where the pain points might lie and how to respond to them.

IT Infra event 2021

The IT Infra event 2021 will take place on Tuesday 16 November at 1931 congrescentrum 's-Hertogenbosch.

Please reserve this date in your agenda! On that day, the exhibitors will offer you an interesting lecture programme with specific themes, but of course the exhibitors will again be happy to meet you in person.

Due to the current corona crisis, more and more people and companies depend on the IT world. The IT infrastructure and data centre world are more important than ever before. During this event, technical and interactive lectures by the exhibitors, keynote speakers and a panel discussion will update you as a visitor on current topics.
