Photonics and Terahertz Imaging
Description
On 20 January, NERG and URSI, in cooperation with the KIVI Telecommunications Department, are offering a theme evening on Photonics and Terahertz Imaging.
This time, the theme of the meeting is the wavelength range from microwaves to optics. Prof Boller of the University of Twente will talk about a new type of electron laser that can be used to obtain coherent electromagnetic radiation from about 20 GHz to 1 THz. Here, electron beams are guided in vacuum through holes in a crystal consisting of metal rods. Dr Ramon Navarro of ASTRON will give a talk on his group's research into new instrumentation in the infrared region for the benefit of astronomy. Dr Stefan Bäumer of the Optical Group of TNO Delft, will talk about the research in TNO into hyperspectral imaging. This involves obtaining and processing parallel images at very many wavelengths. Finally, Dr Aurèle Adam of the Optical Group of Delft University of Technology will give a talk on research and applications of the relatively unknown THz wavelength region
