Description

We would like to cordially invite you to the KIVI Telecommunications theme meeting on "Radio communications in disasters and DAC design".
The topic involves two separate presentations.
Multicarrier transmitters for communication infrastructure require both high linearity and high bandwidth at GHz frequencies. For example, this is the case with the combination of multicarrier GSM, WCDMA and LTE. Elbert Bechthum conducted research on optimal design of an integrated mixer-DAC for the purpose of broadband multicarrier transmission.
In areas where there is no telecommunications infrastructure, or when such infrastructure has been destroyed by a natural disaster, Near Vertical Incidence Skywave (NVIS) propagation can provide a connection to the outside world. Ben Witvliet has done unique experimental work on radio propagation on HF, via vertically radiated waves (NVIS).

The 2015 Veder Prize will be awarded at this meeting. Every year, the Stichting Wetenschappelijk Radiofonds Veder awards the so-called Vederprijs to individuals who have made pioneering contributions in the field of radio and telecommunications science. The prize is awarded to Dr Elbert Bechthum and Dr ing. Ben Witvliet.
Prof. Dr Lighthart will address the scientific and societal importance of the work of both prize winners in his presentation
