Betuwe Route: coherent system choices
Description
KIVI NIRIA's Platform Railsystemen is a meeting place for people interested in Rail Engineering in a broad sense.
This meeting of the KIVI NIRIA Platform Railsystemen will discuss the rationale for the technical choices for the Betuwe Route, and in particular the interrelationship between the choices for the various systems. We will pay attention to rail safety (ERTMS, ATB), power supply (25 kV with 'island problem', EMC) and workplace safety (Hand Held Terminals).
The Betuweroute consists of a new route along the A15 for the connection to Germany, and the upgrading of the Port railway line for transport to/from the terminals and ports.
Connections to the other rail network have been realised at several places. The technical choices on the Betuweroute therefore depend on the techniques used on the adjacent parts of the rail network, both in the Netherlands and in Germany.
The integral choices for the systems to be applied will only come about carefully, completely and optimally with adequate direction. We will explain this role of ProRail in the meeting.
