General

With the arrival of the extra trams for the Uithof line, the Tram Remise, along the Amsterdam Rhine Canal near Westraven, does not provide sufficient capacity for maintenance of the trams. To provide this extra space, a completely new one has been built next to the 'old' depot. This New Tram Remise (NTR) was built based on the idea that further growth of the tram system is possible.

The Tram Company of the province of Utrecht occupies a special position. On behalf of the province, it owns and manages all assets of the Tram System. From trams, tram tracks, stops to depots (workshops, offices and sidings). The actual maintenance is contracted to third parties. The assets are also made available to the carrier which means that the trams are not owned by the carrier (U-OV) but by the Province's Tram Company.

Completion of the NTR is scheduled for the third quarter of 2019. KIVI's Rails Systems Department and the Utrecht Region invite you to take an exclusive look at this New Tram Remise. Before a tour of the hall, there will be a short presentation by Gerrit Barmentlo of the Tram Company on the history of the old depot and the development of the Tram Company.

Then Jeroen Brinkman as project manager on the side of the Province of Utrecht will take you through the project: the realisation of the NTR. Think of construction phasing steps and, for example, the relationship with other projects. The programme will end with a small drink.
