ProRail, together with Network Rail and SNCF, is currently investigating the possibility of implementing a 'hybrid ERTMS Level 3' variant on the track. Live testing is expected to start in October this year on a Network Rail route in the UK. If the tests with 'hybrid ERTMS Level 3' succeed, the cost of implementing ERTMS is expected to be lower than with the roll-out of ERTMS Level 2. Moreover, greater capacity gains can be achieved. This became clear during a KIVI ERTMS seminar at Arcadis in Amersfoort last week.hybrid ERTMS Level 3 is currently still in the development phase.
