Design of cycling facilities
Description
There is a lot of cycling around large train stations, so it is a big challenge to guide this bicycle traffic safely and quickly in this very busy environment. In Amsterdam, behind the central station, the choice was made to handle traffic in a shared space environment. We would like to introduce you to the background of the chosen layout and show you how it works in practice. We also want to inform you about the state of affairs regarding safe cycling in relation to road design. Royal HaskoningDHV will zoom in on research results of recent projects the forgiving bike path, safe application of bicycle posts and bicycle and side lanes. In addition, ANWB would like to give its view here on its design approach for better planning of all urban traffic. Cycling success, according to ANWB, requires smarter design of routes and streets. After three introductions, we will move on foot to the shared space area behind Central Station near the IJ ferries to have a snack and a drink back at the Amsterdam library after watching the interesting interaction between the misparticipants.
